RSYNC Policy

Hosting of RFCI
provided through
the generosity of
Sonic.Net

As of December 5, 2006, we have changed our rsync policy to allow greater access to our data. The process is now much simpler.

  1. You Agree Not To Redistribute
By using the RFC-Ignorant.org rsync service, you agree not to further redistribute the content, excepting for internal distribution to your own nameservers, etc.
  2. You Agree Not To Abuse The System
The zonefiles are updated at 00:00, 06:00, 12:00, and 18:00 [US/Eastern]. There's absolutely no reason to request the zones every ten minutes. Don't waste our bandwidth and play nice.
  3. The RFCI-NS List Is Your Friend
You should probably join the RFCI-NS Mailing List. This is a very low-traffic mailing list which is devoted to keeping people who maintain both public and private slaves of the zonefiles informed about any changes to their sync processes. Major policy alterations may also be propagated here so as to ensure that side-wide users are aware of any significant change.
  4. Choose your style
The RFC-Ignorant database is available in two formats, BIND9 format and RBLDNSD(?) format. Choose whichever format you would like to get your data in.
  5. rsync From the Master
You can rsync from ns0.rfc-ignorant.org. (If it is your intent to run a public authoritative slave, you should contact us for formal approval, at which point you will be told of a different hostname to use that isn't itself dependent on rfc-ignorant.org resolution).

If you request module rfci via rsync, you will receive the BIND9 format zonefiles.
If you request module rfcirbl via rsync, you will receive the RBLDNSD format zonefiles.
That's it. Enjoy the zones.
